Image of Shirley Brossman

Welcome, I'm Shirley Brossman - an artist living in Jersey, Channel Islands. I work primarily with acrylic on canvas.

My work is contemporary and colourful, influenced by the colours of stained glass windows. The movement of the paint on the canvas allows the viewer to capture a moment when the brush strokes were first intoduced on the canvas. The use of a pallet knife gives texture and allows for a type of marbled effect.

Each painting has its own personality and the viewer may see other art within the art ... take time to study the work, to see two separate pieces of work. The beauty of the individual portrait, the face shape, the nose, the colourful eyes, the movement of the hair, followed by the beauty of the strong hues used to bring them alive.

Each portrait has its own story and painted in honour of iconic people who are significant to Jersey's history and talent.
